New App Uses AI to Connect Unhoused Individuals with Local Resources

A local man has created an artificial intelligence app designed to connect unhoused individuals with community resources, addressing one of the most significant barriers faced by people experiencing homelessness.

John Wannamaker developed Street Survival Coach, an AI-powered app that uses ChatGPT to help people navigate available services in their area. The app guides users through a series of questions to assess their immediate needs before providing step-by-step instructions for obtaining shelter, food, a shower, or legal documents.

"It'll ask you, 'Do you feel safe for tonight?'" Wannamaker said. "If you don't, it'll help you find the resources to become safe. If you don't have food, it'll help you find food. If you don't have shelter, it'll help you find shelter for the night. Even if you refuse to go to a shelter, it'll tell you, strategically, what you do to live out in the open and be safe."

The app's conversational format allows users to input their own answers, enabling the technology to tailor its guidance to each individual's specific situation and needs.

Street Survival Coach is available now at tinyurl.com/streetcoach.
